Golf in the Netherlands: visitor info

Playing golf in the Netherlands or Belgium for the first time, or new to the sport? This page answers the practical questions that apply to almost every course — club-specific details are on that course's own page. Deze pagina in het Nederlands.

What is a greenfee?

A greenfee is what you pay as a non-member to play a round at a golf course. Many Dutch and Belgian clubs welcome greenfee players alongside their members; some clubs are members-only. Every course page on GolfVandaag notes whether a course is open to visitors and, where known, what a greenfee costs.

What's the difference between a 9-hole and an 18-hole course?

A standard round of golf is 18 holes; a 9-hole course is often played twice for a full round. Some clubs only have 9 holes, others offer both at different rates. Pitch & putt and par-3 courses are shorter and more accessible for beginners.

Do I need a handicap or GVB to play?

It depends on the club. Some courses require no handicap or golf proficiency certificate (GVB), others ask for at least handicap 54 (in practice open to any registered golfer) or set stricter requirements. Dutch golfers register their handicap through the NGF, Belgian golfers through Golf Vlaanderen or the ASBL/AFG. Check a specific club's handicap requirement on its course page.

How do I book a tee time?

Most clubs let you book online through their own website or a booking system; some smaller clubs still work by phone or email appointment. Website and contact details are listed on every course page.

What is the dress code at a golf course?

Most clubs expect a collared shirt with sleeves, long trousers, bermuda shorts, a golf skirt or dress with ankle-covering socks, and proper golf shoes. Jeans, tracksuit bottoms and sleeveless shirts without a collar are usually not allowed. The exact dress code can vary by club — check with the club beforehand.
